Over the weekend, BT Sport invited two Coach Core apprentices from the Essex programme to work behind the scenes at The Vanarama National League Promotion Final at Wembley Stadium. This initiative was part of a BT’s wider sponsorship of the Coach Core programmes in both Essex and in Manchester.
Sam and Leah, our two apprentices, got to see exactly what goes into producing a live sporting event, from exploring the television gallery to chatting with BT Sport presenter Jeff Brazier.

18-year-old Sam said he spent time “in the trucks working on camera angles and graphics for the show”, and that his unique experience allowed him to gain “exposure of what happens on set at BT Sport and how production takes place.”
He added: “[I’ve] gained skills on videography, and the day [has] increased my confidence further with working within that environment and with talent.”
Leah, who’s 19, also gained a lot from her time with BT Sport, saying:
“I think this experience was really useful as it got me thinking about different aspects of events and the different production team members needed. I will be able to take [the skills I’ve learnt] back to my club to use there.”
This was an incredible experience for our apprentices, and hopefully it’s given them (and their CVs) a big boost towards their coaching qualifications.
BT Sport were also kind enough to offer tickets to all our other Coach Core apprentices, so they could watch the final on the day!
