Coach Core London launched on 22 August, 2016. The project aims to build on the work of successful apprentice coaching pilot schemes between The Royal Foundation and Greenhouse Sports in 2012 and 2014. Graduates from previous years have had continued success, with some securing coaching jobs and others going on to university. This year, the programme has progressed to a multi-employer led project, increasing the range of sports, project offers, and geographical spread. Under this new enhancement, Greenhouse Sports is joined by West Ham United Foundation, Fulham FC Foundation, LondonYouth Rowing, Marylebone Cricket Club and London Rugby League Foundation in employing apprentice coaches who are participating in the Coach Core scheme. There are 17 apprentices in total delivering across schools and community sports programmes in London.
In these first few weeks, the apprentices have been busy going through inductions with their employers and spending time with Lifetime, the apprenticeship training provider, to understand more about the programme. They have also come together for fun team building activities where they observed West Ham U18s training and took part in a treasure hunt to test their skills negotiating London Transport! The apprentices are looking forward to delving more into coaching as the year goes on and working with their mentors to develop their skills.
