COACH CORE WELCOMES MIDDLESBROUGH FOR 2017-2018

COACH CORE WELCOMES NEW TEAMS FOR 2017-2018

Continuing our mission to expand the Coach Core programme and reach out to more young people across the country, we were delighted to see the launch of our tenth programme in Middlesbrough recently. Led by Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation, the programme employs 18 apprentices across the following employer partners:

  • Mowden Park Rugby Club
  • Tees Active
  • Redcar and Cleveland Council
  • Simon Carson Sports
  • Rosewood Academy
  • Street League
  • Hemlington Linx
  • Middlesbrough FC Foundation

The programme is now fully underway, with apprentices well settled into their employment. For Jordan Cotterill, Coach Core apprentice at MFC, the programme is already having a huge impact: ‘It’s been an amazing experience so far. Everything that we learn on our education days is so easily transferred into our day to day employment, we are constantly learning and becoming more confident. We’ve received so much support from everyone involved, it really feels like they care and want to see you develop’

Colleague Nick Moore, also based at MFC, agrees: ‘It’s been such a good experience so far, we have learnt so much already. I was on an apprenticeship previously, outside of sport and the two experiences are worlds apart. The education is a different class, the tutor is great and we know that they are always there for support if we need it. We are given so many opportunities to learn and develop, but only at a pace that we are comfortable with.’

The programme also seems to be having a big impact on employers. Liam Watson, Lead Mentor at MFC said, ‘It’s been a really valuable programme so far. Having the apprentices on board has enabled us to improve our current provision, helping our regular events and activities run more smoothly and therefore, adding quality to our delivery. It’s given our existing staff the opportunity to develop their learning, by mentoring others and sharing their skills and experience. It’s also helped raise aspirations amongst young people on our sessions. One young person, having worked with one of our apprentices within sessions, is now looking to take more of a leadership role, with the view to eventually becoming an apprentice on future Coach Core programmes.’

There’s plenty of exciting plans in motion for our Middlesbrough programme, so watch this space for more news and event information!
