Round up from Coach Core Awards 2018

All our Coach Core Apprentices came together to celebrate Team Coach Core!

By James Burbidge · 24th September 2018

Over 200 Coach Core apprentices and graduates travelled to Loughborough University to celebrate their achievements as they took part in our first ever Coach Core Awards today.

The awards included categories for Apprentice of the Year and Educator of the Year, which were presented by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, respectively.

The morning included masterclass sessions with sports stars including Laura Robson, Scott Hann, Ugo Monye & Sarah Hunter and Mark Ramprakash.

Afterwards, BT Sport’s very own Jake Humphrey hosted a panel session with even more sporting pros just for our apprentices. The panel line-up included Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Paula Radcliffe, Eboni Beckford-Chambers, Danny Kerry, Mel Marshall and David Robinson.

Graduating apprentices from Coach Core locations Glasgow, Wales, London, Essex, Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester then took part in a netball shootout. Their Royal Highnesses even faced off on opposing teams!

Finally, everyone took their seats in Sir David Wallace Hall for the awards ceremony. Each and every nominee was deserving of the prize, but after tough deliberations, the winners were:

  • Mentor of the Year – Liam Watson
  • Community Outreach Project of the Year – Yorkhill Hospital
  • Educator of the Year – Gareth Norman
  • Inclusion Programme of the Year – Torquay United Inspirations
  • Graduate of the Year – Seb Vidal
  • Apprentice of the Year – Kayleigh Batt

Thanks to every person who came along and took part in the day, and also a huge thank you to Loughborough University for hosting us!
